Maybe you want to gather around the fire this Christmas, but you don't have a fireplace. Or you're a displaced New Yorker who wants a sliver of home on this holiday. Or maybe you've just watched one too many hours of "A Christmas Story." Whatever your reasoning, the classic Yule Log awaits.
A remarkable and unlikely story, the holiday tradition of showing a log burning in a festive fireplace, set to classic Christmas music, still burns on today. It began in 1966, on New York TV station WPIX, with a loop of a placid domestic scene at the Mayor's Gracie Mansion that was broadcast on Christmas Eve. A new video was shot in California in 1970, and for years, continued to be shown on that local channel and other networks throughout the nation. It went on hiatus in 1989, was brought back in 2001 and is shown to this day from 9 am to 1pm.

9 seconds ago( 8:57 AM) Now we have it on 2 stations in the L A area 5 and 9 both do it. And you can buy a DVD and play it on you flat screen TV on Christmas if you are sans real fireplace.
18 hours ago( 2:46 PM) I had this turned on my television today; it?s a beautiful picture with holiday music playing in the background but doesn?t compete with the noise the family is making - wonderful. I like the new, lighter colored mantel too.
