As blind auditions continue and the judges keep on building their teams of eight, Lucca took advantage of some of his downtime to stop by EW for a performance of his original song ?Death of Me? and size up his competition, which comes courtesy of fellow mentors Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, and Cee Lo Green.

?It?s really hard to say this year. These are some of the most serious singers on the planet,? he says, pointing to this year?s crop of singers, many of whom, like Lucca, have had long careers in the independent music market. ?[We've] been on the sidelines of the reality TV show, vocal competitions ? the American Idols. Then this show comes along and you see that they?re actually featuring that and excited about shedding light on artist?s careers. Now, we?ve come out of the woodwork? all these semi-professional singers are chomping at the bit to get a chance at this.?

That distinction, says Lucca, who never auditioned for American Idol, is why he decided to turn to a reality competition show after years of avoiding the method. ?The right format has finally come along. I can get with [this]. I?m not going to go get laughed at or made fun of or ridiculed [on] international TV. This is a legitimate artist development opportunity. Who would pass that up??

He was one of the brightest spots in the final years of MMC. I'm glad he's finding success. It's kind of hard to believe he used to date Keri Russell.

Loved Tony Lucca back in the day. But I have to say, the guy needs to get a new hat!!! However, I do look forward to watching The Voice this season just to see him perform.

He has been doing a lot of press recently--- Today Show, Access Hollywood. I am getting nervous that he doesn't make it to the Live shows (past the battle rounds). He is the only contestant doing press and would think the show wouldn't want him getting an unfair edge before the public votes. I am curious that maybe he is being allowed to do this because he already got booted and the show is letting him capitalize on the noise he made on the show. I hope he is still on the show but you have to wonder why no one else is getting the same opportunity....

I have been a fan of Tony's for over a decade. He is a great musician and I really hope he dominates the competition! I hope all the press isn't because he already got booted, because he is amazing.

I have a feeling he's doing the press for the show because amongst the singers who have made it through the blind auditions he is the most recognizable face. Many of us grew up watching the MMC, and remember when he would perform with other a-listers on the show. So lets stay positive for Tony, and just say he has not been booted, and just the only contestant with some recognition to attach to The Voice. We'll get to see the others as time goes on, but for now they have Tony to do the press. :)
