With just three games remaining in the 2011 MLB regular season, the Boston Red Sox got a key home run off of the bat of Jacoby Ellsbury in the 14th inning last night to maintain a narrow one game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the chase for the American League Wild Card. Boston salvaged a split of a double-header against the New York Yankees, while Tampa Bay took care of the Toronto Blue Jays to keep the race close heading into the series finales for both teams starting on Monday.

Entering play on Sunday, various scenarios could have played out for both Boston and Tampa Bay. The Red Sox could have gone up by three games with three to go, but the Rays could have pulled even with the current leaders had the Yankees held on in the night game last night. But with all that being said, Boston rallied and got a huge homer from Ellsbury to beat New York 7-4 and hold on to the slimmest of leads.
