Aaron Rodgers already leads the NFL in several key statistical categories. Now the Green Bay Packers quarterback has emerged as the leader in another area: pro bowl voting.
Fan balloting for the 2012 Pro Bowl closed Monday night and Rodgers was the clear winner. The 2011 Associated Press male athlete of the year received 1,581,982 votes to beat out New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who received the second-highest tally at 1,454,311.
The top 10 was rounded out by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees (1,188,893), Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson (1,180,777), Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker (1,133,787), Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy (962,824), Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (936,886), Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (935,535), Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (925,554) and Steelers receiver Mike Wallace (923,073).
Folks in Green Bay have been busy at their computers, with a league-best nine Packers getting the most votes at their positions. The Baltimore Ravens have the most players among the top vote-receivers at their positions with seven, including five on defense.
The fans have one-third of the say in determining the Pro Bowl rosters for each conference with players and coaches counting for the remaining two-thirds of the final result.
