When these two teams met earlier this season in Week 13, fans were treated to a back-and-forth, offensive gem won by Green Bay, 38-35, in New Jersey. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers continued to play with MVP form, leading a game-winning scoring drive in the final minute. But Rodgers' New York counterpart, Eli Manning, showed himself up to the task as well. Both quarterbacks enter the game with championships on their resumes and both have designs on adding another.
After leaving the Meadowlands with that thrilling win, the Pack were tipped to finish out a perfect regular season. However, they were unexpectedly toppled by the Kansas City Chiefs. Certainly, Manning and some of his teammates know a little something about knocking off an undefeated ballclub, having famously upset the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl in 2008. Big Blue took a playoff trip to a frost-bitten Lambeau Field for the NFC Championship Game during that postseason run, upsetting Brett Favre in his last game in Green Bay.
The Packers' preparations to avoid another playoff upset at the hands of the Giants have been interrupted by the tragic death of the 21-year-old son of the offensive coordinator, Joe Philbin. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy coach called the drowning death of young Michael Philbin a "punch in the heart." The elder Philbin will reportedly be with the team today at Lambeau but there's no telling what sort of emotional toll the events of the past week have taken on him or his players.
And Packers are the first home team upset in the NFL playoffs. New York goes back on to San Francisco while Green Bay stays home to wonder what could have been. Rust never sleeps.. not even if you earn a bye week.
Rodgers throw is batted up and picked off by Grant. What concentration by Grant who lays out for it before it can drop. Apropos ending. Giants should kneel it out.
Starks pulled down in backfield just before we get to the two-minute warning. I'm getting the feeling that Giants have no interest in allowing a window-dressing score.
He took handoff and went left but the doors were locked. He bounces it back to the middle, eluding Raji, and then across to the right. Eli even getting out trying to throw a block. Giants in red zone. Nail in coffin.
Rodgers throws incomplete but Packers get a personal foul call against Osi. Hit may have been late but there was no blow to head as was indicated. 1st and 10 for Pack.

11:45 AM on 01/16/2012 I mean, it's news, sorta. But really? This is the most important story for NYC? Ugh. And you wonder why we're going down the drain to the tune of almost $2.5 BILLION a DAY in our country. Eli & company is priority #1 - huh?
09:50 AM on 01/16/2012 San Fran is the best playing team right now, Giants are the second best playing team right now....Ravens and Pats are not in their class right now.
08:25 PM on 01/15/2012 The Packers needed a wrong review and a horrible roughing call just to score any touchdowns. The Giants owned them in their own house today. Maybe State Farm will buy less ad time now.
08:22 PM on 01/15/2012 If it's any consolation to the Eagles and the Cowboys, a team from their division made it to the NFC Championship game!
08:19 PM on 01/15/2012 Good receivers are what makes a QB look good and today the Packer receivers outside of Driver were no-shows---I will stay in tomorrow, hate to see all those depressed fans here---Congrats to the Giants tho--they came to play----Would think the team to beat in the Superbowl is New England if last night was an indicator.
02:02 PM on 01/16/2012 Pass rush can make quarterbacks throw off-balance, too quickly and with less than customary accuracy to receivers out of position, even if only by a little. But there were also instances of a good throw and no reception too..
02:20 AM on 01/17/2012 Roger, I didn't go to the cemtaries in N'awlins but I met a Voodoo Queen. Bottom line: Scott Walker is in trouble.
03:11 PM on 01/17/2012 Hey Badge---They turn in the petitions today--be interesting to see the final numbers---Walker still running lots of those impressionable ads tho---I hate being pessimistic but this won't be a slam dunk--we still need an opponent and some ads to turn the tide--The Packers really sucked but it was still a great season--Think I'll cheer for San Fran-they are closest to you :-)
08:13 PM on 01/15/2012 Blue Collar baby, defense is peaking, people are catching the ball, a they're being led by a humble with a cannon for an arm.
