The National Environment Agency (NEA) announced today that they are expanding the job scopes of their over 600 Sanitation and Vector Control employees to include a new field surveillance initiative, and that it will come with a 4 per cent increment in salary.
The current job scope consists of maintaining the cleanliness of the public areas of Singapore, such as sweeping litter and leaves from streets, emptying litter bins and applying anti-mosquito oil to potential breeding grounds.
Under the new scheme, employees will be required to observe and report on any sanitation or pest control irregularities in the course of their daily work.
This includes overflowing litter bins, damaged drains and illegal dumping. NEA said this will assist them to respond and rectify such lapses faster and more efficiently.
Along with the redesigned job scope, the total average monthly gross salary with bonus and allowance of cleaning workers will increase from the range of S$1055 - S$1471 to S$1093 - S$1525. The pay scale of those who do pest control work will rise from S$1127 - S$1531 to S$1168 - S$1587.
A new supervisory advancement position has also been introduced for an improved career progression path for employees. Customised courses have also been drawn up to upgrade their skills and help employees transit into their new roles effectively.
