Submit this storydigg reddit stumble In the GOP's weekly address, House Republican Conference Vice-Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) blasted Obama for his recent budget proposal, saying it would put America on "a roadmap to Greece."
"If we keep on going like this, the consequences will be devastating," McMorris Rodgers said on Saturday. "The president's budget isn't a blueprint for America; it's a road map to Greece."
The proposal has received harsh reviews from Congressional Republicans, including House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who called the plan "a gloomy reflection of his failed policies of the past." After the budget proposal's release, HuffPost's Sam Stein reported on the mixed response:
President Barack Obama's Fiscal Year 2013 budget isn't inherently unique or surprising. It sticks to the same objectives that the White House has pursued for months: short-term investments in job growth, combined with a mix of long-term spending cuts and revenue raisers to achieve a decent amount of deficit reduction.
Yet many have responded to the proposal with a great deal of alarm. The reaction has been decidedly political on both sides, with the White House making a major bet that the country is tired of austerity measures and Republicans jumping to brand the president as a paradigm of fiscal irresponsibility.

5 minutes ago ( 6:44 PM) Seeing how Reagan, Bush, and Bush all ballooned the size of the government AND created over 93% of the US National Debt, it seems pretty obvious that if there's going to be a fiscal collapse of the conservative's welfare state, it's entirely because conservative ideology just plain doesn't work (which we've already seen proven in 2008).
16 minutes ago ( 6:34 PM) Cathy and the other republican leaders kinda glossed over the 8 years of massive destruction created by George Bush I guess.
20 minutes ago ( 6:29 PM) If Obama doesn't stop increasing our debt, it won't be long before our creditors like China will be telling us what to do if we want to borrow more money just as Europe is telling Greece to cut more spending if they want more bailouts. I am sure the American people will thank Obama when that happens and I guarantee you it will happen unless we lower or debt.
4 minutes ago ( 6:45 PM) I thought Newt had a roadmap to Greece. Didn't he just abandon his campaign for a few weeks when he took his wife there?
2 minutes ago ( 6:47 PM) And don't forget, Reagan TRIPLED the US National Debt, and Pappy Bush increased it another 50%. The ONLY time there's any Fiscal Responsibility is when Democrats are in the White House, "spending like Democrats" (aka paying down the National Debt, balancing the budget, etc).
60 minutes ago ( 5:49 PM) obama has no intention of working with a budget! His last "proposed" budget was voted down 97-0 in the Senate. Not even the Democrats would vote for it! And, now he has put forth another "proposed" budget that has nothing to do with reality. Harry Reid is doing obama a favor by not even bringing it up for a vote, because he knows it will be completely rejected by both Democrats and Republicans. Sorry......
50 minutes ago ( 5:59 PM) Been a long time since you consulted your copy of the constitution, I see. The constitution puts the responsibility for a budget in the House of Representatives. The Republcians have had that responsibility for over a year now and have failed to carry it out. The fact that they tried once and failed does not take the responsibility away from them. It is still up to them to bring forth a budget that can pass the senate and get the signature of the President. MR. BOEHNER, WE'RE WAITING !!
30 minutes ago ( 6:19 PM) Why go through the process of a budget? It's never worked and it never will work as long as the powers to be in Washington are so divisive. Preparing a budget is simply a tremendous waste of a lot of people's time. Why do something that doesn't matter?
1 hour ago ( 5:47 PM) The Republican majority in the House can show some leadership in controlling the growth of US deficit and debt.
26 minutes ago ( 6:24 PM) Completely agree and while we are at it defund unnecessary things like Planned Parenthood, National Public Radio, the National Endowment for Arts and ALL financial support for the U.N. Abolish the Department of Education. Let the states take over. I Obama continues to run up our debt, it won't be long before our creditors like China will be telling us what to do if we want to borrow more money just as Europe is telling Greece to cut more spending.
11 minutes ago ( 6:38 PM) Virginia Fox is an illegal alien from Space. She is living proof that there just aren't too many people that want this job. Virginia, Cathy and Dave are goners. We just need about 200 more to go.
1 hour ago ( 5:20 PM) She knows we are not broke. We remain the richest nation on the earth. What broken promises? Talk is cheap from the do nothing congress and is worth what we paid for it, nothing.
1 hour ago ( 5:33 PM) Individual Americans are rich, but our government is in debt, and the debt is unsustainable. It is fair to debate whether or not now is the time to address this issue, and it is fair to debate whether or not we should cut spending, or find a way to raise revenues, but it is unwise to simply pretend the problem doesn't exist at all.
1 hour ago ( 5:48 PM) I've been complaining bitterly about the debt buildup since it started 32 years ago with Ronald Regan. He, together with the 2 Bushs, have created 73% of our national debt. They could not have piled this monstrosity on the backs of our kids and grandkids without the support of their conservative base, who today scream the loudest about deficits. They scream and refuse to acknowledge that it is THEY who are responsible for this mess.
47 minutes ago ( 6:02 PM) You buy a home. The fact that you owe 75% of the home's value on a mortgage does not signify that you are broke. You are in debt....YES. Broke....NO !!
2 hours ago ( 5:10 PM) The GOP hope that the majority of Americans will be lazy, and not remember the economic downturns from 2001-2009 that brought to where we are today. They want us to forget. That job growth from that period was worse than all of 2010 under President Obama.
But he is Black, and they hate him for that, for his intellegence, and for his compassion, and hard work. Because what have republicans done that you can think of FOR THIS country, and for that matter anyone making less than 250,000 a year; in the last 16 years?
1 hour ago ( 5:28 PM) This is true, but unless you plan on being one of the recipients of those printed dollars, that isn't exactly a good solution.
