Are you kidding me? Is this a joke? Both A.J Smith and Norv Turner are staying? It looks like the Chargers will once again have another disappointing season to add on to their recent tally.
What the heck was Dean Spanos thinking by keeping both A.J. and Norv? He should?ve at least gotten rid of A.J. because of his poor management skills. I can understand the Chargers keeping Turner because he is great at calling plays for the offense. Nor was it his fault for the mistakes that players made on the field.
Most Charger fans believe Spanos made a horrible move to keep both A.J. Smith and Norv Turner. I was ok with Norv staying, but I believe that Smith should?ve been fired because of the poor decisions he?s made throughout the years: 1) getting rid of Drew Brees, who is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and has a Super Bowl ring 2) dumping Michael Turner, who is a top rusher and 3) not keeping Darren Sproles, who is an outstanding all-purpose running back.
Fans were looking for at least one of these heads to roll. Norv and A.J. had better step it up this season if they want to keep their jobs.
Working together, these two have caused the Chargers to steadily digress, Chargers barely have a winning record for the past three years. they?ve accumulated a 25-23 record from the 2009-2010 to 2011-2012 seasons. These poor seasons have been sparked by the poor starts which in turn are caused by poor coaching from Turner and bad management by Smith.
Despite all the anger from most Charger fans, there are some who believe that keeping both may have been a smart decision. ?When I first heard the news, I wanted to headbutt the wall and dropkick Brock Lesnar (a professional UFC fighter). Then I calmed down and realized that if they acquired a new coach, it would take the organization five years to build up again. It?s really the player?s duty to make the team successful,? says football coach Joseph Kim.
They?ve also been failing to take advantage of picking up players off of free agency. This is good because Smith and Turner will hopefully be spending more money on this free agency to pick up players that will help the Chargers to a successful season.
The Chargers have also fired their defensive coordinator, Greg Munusky, and have hired their linebacker coach, John Pagano, who is the brother of Ravens defensive coach Chuck Pagano, to replace Munusky.
Smith and Turner were both told by owner Dean Spanos that if they didn?t get their act together and turn this team around that they would be fired. All Chargers fans should be looking forward to next season. Whatever happens, it will be a win-win situation for the fans. I guess we will just have to wait till next season to find out how well the Chargers will do.
