Part of the department's effort of providing learning experiences for differentiated learners, the Department of Science is pleased to have the School of Health Sciences, Ngee Ann Polytechnic to conduct a 5-day Advanced Elective Module (Biology) on Chronic Diseases to some 20 selected Sec 3 students from Nan Hua High School on 14 Nov 2011 to 18 Nov 2011.
It was an enriching and rewarding learning experience for everyone as students learned to apply their concepts from their daily Biology curriculum in class to real world, authentic learning experiences that are related to chronic diseases linked to some of the biological systems in humans.
Introducing students to the common chronic diseases such as Hyperlipidemia, Stroke, Coronary Artery Diseases, Diabetes, Heart Failure, Obstructive Lung Diseases and Osteoporosis.
A field visit to hospital was included in the course to enable students to relate the medical conditions which they have learned and also to have a better understanding of the working environment of the various healthcare professionals.
