For computer owners who are not connected to the internet we can still update antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials manually. This article describes how to manually update your virus and spyware definition updates for Microsoft Security Essentials (formerly known as Microsoft Morro).
NOTE: To install the correct version of virus and spyware definition updates Microsoft Security Essentials, you must find out if Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 running on an operating environment 32-bit or 64-bit.
NOTE: You must run 64-bit versions of Windows to run 64-bit version of Microsoft Security Essentials. 64-bit versions of Windows include x64-based versions of Windows.
2. Click Run to install the definition update file soon. Or, click Save to save the file to your computer. If you click Save, remember the folder where you save the file.
Right-click the file, and then click Run As Administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
4. When the walking definition update file, a file extraction dialog box will appear. The dialog box shows that the definition updates are installing. After the file extraction dialog box is closed, you can verify that the virus and spyware definitions have been updated. To do this, open the Microsoft Security Essentials, click Update, and then check the status of virus and spyware definitions.
