Tomorrow, Diana will discuss more fully what she experienced with the man of war stings and the devastating effects those stings had oh ability breath and function. For now, here some photos of those stings, taken aboard the boat back to Key West.
Your purchase of a Wristband, Hat, Polo or T-Shirt will help bring Diana, one stroke at a time, across the ocean from Cuba to Florida!
My gosh? Take Care Diana,I can?t imagine the pain you have and are enduring. Hoping you create some time for yourself to rest and relax. You?ve put your time in? may your whole crew get a good nights rest soon!
You are incredible, Diana. As a queer athlete, you are truly my hero. In such an isolating sport, too. Keep it up lady! I can?t wait to share your story with my class (I teach Kindergarten). Thanks!
I don?t know that she has identified herself that way and I think we need to be respectful of her choice. (But I could be wrong about identifying herself that way publicly.)
Ouch!!! That looks painful and I know it was worse than that. To think that you kept swimming after the first attack still floors me. I think the previous post about you have chutzpah you have is one of the best explainations. As my old vice principal said last night, you are a W-O-M-A-N! Go Diana, go! Thank you for sharing your engery and dream.
Terrible terrible?. blue bottles are so common in Australia too. I know how much they hurt and the ones you got must have been the very big ones with long tentacles which wrap around you. You are brave and awesome, every which way.
So sorry for the pain you endured. So elated with your accomplishment. You were my hero back in 75 and I am very proud to say you are still in 2011. Just amazing! You bring so much joy and inspiration to anyone that familiarizes themselves with your courage. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! 3> It must feel amazing to leave behind a legacy such as yours. Dream on!
Let me say, since it seems like I?m the only MALE who would dare post here? I am inspired by your strong will, determination, and sheer UNF! It is not every day that a woman of your caliber does something extraordinary. I am also proud to see that a woman as young as you are, in today?s world, still has DREAMS, and the gumption to go out and at least attempt something that, in all honesty, at 26 years old, I would probably never try. Combat is one thing, however, what you did, goes beyond what I know that I am capable of. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope and pray that you do not give up yet. CARPE DIEM!
Not so Lt D Young! I have been posting here since Diana started her swim. I was inspired by Diana in ?78, she showed me at my young age that dreams are possible and put me on a life of swimming. Now in 2011 she has reenforced my desire to return to the water. An amazing woman, winner all around. Will. Determination. Perserverance. Guts.
Well said Lt. . . I am a 60 year old women who thought of Diana as my mentor since I was a young girl. I even inscribed a T-Shirt with her name. I am also a retires US Marine. Speedy recovery Diana!
Oh my gosh ? those look so painful, I can?t imagine how you kept going. I am so inspired by your story. You are an incredible woman, and an amazing athlete; your determination will continue to motivate so many people. Congratulations on another heroic swim.
Diana, you have inspired me for years. Those welts look excruciating. I wish you healing of body and spirit. Your athleticism challenges all of us over 50 to dream higher and to reach higher towards those dreams.
Wow, and you?re still standing?? bravo again and again? where you get the will to stand up again I have no idea, but good on ya, I?m so proud of you and what you are doing and the example you are setting? may your owies be better soon soon soon.
Though your positive demeanor and willingness to take on the hard stuff of life is an inspiration to all human beings..athletes or not. Your perseverance and grace in pursing your dreams sets an example for the rest of us.
I can?t imagine how painful those stings were/are! It is unbelievable to me that you had the courage to jump back in the water after that. Sending love, energy, and strength to heal well!
Sometimes it can be inspiring to others for someone to share such a big goal, dream, or accomplishment with the world. If you don?t have something nice to say, don?t say anything at all. I don?t see you out there doing what she?s done?.
You never cease to amaze!!! We all are once again inspired by your physical and mental toughness! You are truly an incredible woman, and an amazing athlete. You are the Epitome of Determination and Commitment. I was only 13 years old in 1978, when you first attempted this crossing. Now at 46, I am once again in awe and motivated by your latest journey. You gave all you had, and I, like so many others, am extremely proud of you! You have undoubtedly mastered ?Mind over Matter?! Thank you for sharing your dream and showing the world that age does not limit you. Congratulations on yet another heroic swim! I wish you a speedy and complete recovery. I will continue to send positive energy and healing thoughts your way! Namaste!
This looks very painful. Your determination, strength, courage are of such an inspiration. I?ve been following your every stroke and I?m constantly overwhelmed by your power to overcome any obstacle standing in between you and your dream. Thank you and good luck!
I am a 63 yr old woman who has been inspired beyond words by your strength & perseverance & fearlessness. There are many times when I think about things I would still like to accomplish, then fear & self-doubt creep in. You have inspired me to overcome the fear & live my life to its fullest. This might be the best time of my life!! Thank you, Diana! With highest regards?.
Is it possible that she may decide to post just because her strength gives others strength? Her perserverance is commendable and we should all be as talented as she. She obviously has a lot of followers and people that want to be kept informed about her dreams. Yours is the only negative comment on here, and I think that is saying a lot right there.
Diana, You continue to inspire us all! I can relate to those damn man-o-war stings! I had the pleasure of meeting you on the Kona shoreline in February 1982 after my battle with the man-o-war?Great to see you?re still pushing and inspiring us all!!
Holy crap! (pardon my French) How in the name of all that is holy (crap) did you keep going after the first sting let alone the second!?!? Ciminy! You?re determination is awe inspiring!
"Diana is more than a swimmer. She's a beacon of hope to us all that we can dream big, live life large, and look back at all of it with no regrets whatsoever."
