Kevin Costner paid tribute to his co-star from The Bodyguard, and friend Whitney Houston today at the singer's funeral, held in New Jersey, and we were pretty broken up watching him fight back the tears during his remembrance of her.

2Such a heartfelt and beautiful tribute?you can tell he really put a lot of thought into this - I agree, I didn't know where he was going with it in the beginning, but it all comes together in the middle and ends up being totally moving. Sad, joyful, painful and funny all at the same time. Well done, Kevin.

10Confession. I watched part of the Whitney Houston funeral on television today. Time after time, it was spoken or inferred that God's hand was all over her, her voice, her career, her legacy, her life.Of course, there were references to Heaven and angel song (much of the ceremony feeling choreographed like a Grammy number), God's name being uttered over a chorus of celebrity performances and appearances.Certainly possessing superlative talent, Whitney Houston's abilities and beauty were her own and not the property of any deity. Her sad slide into drug abuse and destructive behavior (resulting in her ultimate end, dead from overdose in a hotel bathtub) was a story of choices?human choices?and no happy Jesus talk and gospel choirs will ever make Houston's death anything other than tragic and pointless.When I was a believer, church funerals gave comfort. As an atheist, church funerals seem like a sweet-tasting yet empty placebo for the grief-stricken. I yearn for memorial services that are truly based around fond memories, poignant stories and perhaps even some helpful lessons to be learned, because the whole "God called them home" themes ring false to me, and the theatrics and sermons are saccharine and unsatisfying.

14Kevin Costner has CLASS and Whitney would have been so much better off if she would have married him. He would have cherished her and loved her and she'd probably be happy, safe and alive today. So sad!He's a good man and spoke with such heartfelt grace. And, Tyler Perry was just awesome as well. I'm watching "The Bodyguard" right now and it really was a wonderful movie. So sad that Whitney is gone!

15I wonder how many phone calls he made to her when she was at rock bottom.. humm.. probably NONE! Self absorbed hollywood assholes pretending they have a heart all of a sudden. The second shit got rough they ALL distanced themselves from her. Sure they said they loved her music? but wouldnt touch her with a ten foot pole in fear it would affect their public image. 22I think the reason why he shared a lot about himself in the beginning was to make himself less of an outsider. Obviously it was a long way around it but he finally did it back to Whitney and he obviously cared a great deal for her.
