Joe Philbin likes the blend of his first coaching staff. The Miami Dolphins? new head coach said he strategically put together his coaching staff, taking assistants from the pro and college ranks, and retaining eight holdovers from Tony Sparano?s old staff because he wanted a mix of ?young coaches, veteran coaches, college coaches and NFL coaches.?We spent a lot of time thinking about the type of men we wanted to assemble on the coaching staff and I can tell you I?m delighted about the group we have,? Philbin said on Thursday when he introduced his staff to the media over lunch. Here are the traits Philbin said he was looking for.

1. ?We wanted to find guys that were passionate about the coaching profession. [Coaches] who loved their jobs and had great respect for the game of football, and great respect for the tradition and the history of this franchise, and wanted to be a part of this.?2. ?We?re looking for great leaders,? Philbin said. ?Guys who can set a great example for our players to follow, both on and off the field. I?m confident we obtained that goal as well.?3. ?We were looking for guys who demonstrated an excellent ability to teach the game of football,? Philbin continued. ?To teach the game of football you?ve got to be a great communicator?.We?ve assembled a staff of excellent teachers, and excellent communicators. They can communicate in a clear, concise and candid fashion.?4. ?We looked for guys that had a proven track record of motivation, and the ability to inspire their players to a higher level of achievement,? Philbin said. ?Again, I?m certain we?ve been able to accomplish that.?And finally, the most telling?.5. ?We wanted great chemistry. It?s my opinion, and our opinion as a staff that the players are going to follow our lead,? he said. ?If we don?t have a staff that?s united and loyal to one another, dedicated and professional, its going to be very difficult for us to put a football team out on the field that exhibits the same qualities.?G.G.G.

08/14/11 ? CB Quinten Lawrence has made quite a transformation from little used wide receiver to up and coming cornerback. Lawrence played at WR in his first two seasons and couldn?t stay on the active roster, bouncing back and forth from the practice squad. But he was moved to the secondary for this camp and he?s been very good, showing speed and athletic ability seldom evident when he was running routes.

07/31/11 ? CB Quinten Lawrence a former sixth-round draft choice who has been a disappointed at wide receiver was moved to cornerback; he played there early in his college career at McNeese State.

I got no problem with Tannehill at eight or nine as long as the injury stuff is BS. If we want him we just have to take him there I don?t think there?s any way he falls too far, he?s the best of the rest and those guys have been gone for a while now. Sherman knows what he can do.

Cousins could be a sleeper. I like his leadership, but with his limited skill set I just think he may only be a game manager type at best. Not a guy that will put the team on his back. We need a guy with potential to be a bigtime playmaker.

Man, I just can?t make up my mind on who I want be our #1 Draft pick: Nick Perry, Courtney Upshaw, Quentin Coples, or Whitney the Mercilus.

It?s impossible to even do this before free agency. Everything can change drastically, so don?t get all worked up making that decision now bro.

So Mike I?ve been reading along the last couple of days, unable to post myself, and I have come to the conclusion that in your mind the only ?untouchable? Dolphin on the roster is John Jerry, everyone else is fair game.

I?ll always be disappointed that Piazza didn?t kick the sh*t out of Clemens, when he threw the broken bat at him. He should have lit him up!

I just don?t think we need to sink a lot of money into Flynn. There I said it. Just draft your guy Philbin, remember the no poaching rule?

Son, I agree! Unless Flynn projects to be very significantly better than Moore, then why spend on Flynn. Keep Moore, Draft your guy, & decide if Devlin is the 3rd stringer or sign bring in a lower cost FA QB that will be available soon.

It?s impossible to even do this before free agency. Everything can change drastically, so don?t get all worked up making that decision now bro.

Here?s why: we aren?t breaking the bank for a pass-rusher in F/A being we need the money for a QB, a couple of other key signings (RT? OLB?), and our rookie class.

WE NEED PASS-RUSHERS, and to get one via F/A will co$t an arm and a leg and kill our chances of filling out the rest of our roster with quality.

And I see Son is calling Mike Piazza gay?! Well maybe yes for him ? lol. He was always kind of ?soft?, I thought Clemons was gonna kill him when the bat splintered. I had images of Clemons with a sawed off bat stabbing Piazza in the forehead then stomping on his limp carcass?.lol. Sorry I had a drink ? yay!!!!!!!

On Pudge, he helped win the Marlins 2nd World Series with his arm when he picked off that Yankee on third base. Not the first time he did that. No one could run on him. Piazza was never a catcher.. he was just selfish and wanted to play there.

He couldn?t play anywhere else either. He couldn?t throw his mother out stealing, but he did a decent enough receiving job, and blocking the plate.

Gary Carter wasn?t the best catcher ever but he was one of the best overall catchers ever. Good defensive catcher, great at handling pitchers, good hitter, power, clutch and hustle in everything he did.

IF the Dolphins go into the draft without a QB and can't pull off a trade for Robert Griffin III, it would be the final nail in the coffin.
