Joe Johnson is just 13 points away from becoming the seventh player in Atlanta Hawks history to score 10,000 points with the club. Johnson is currently in seventh place on the Hawks all-time scoring list with 9,987 points and trails Kevin Willis by 595 points for sixth place. Dominique Wilkins is the franchise's all time leader with over 23,292 points.
Wilkins is also the franchise's leader in games played and points per game average. Of the players listed above Johnson only John Drew played less than 730 games in a Hawks uniform. Drew did his damage in just 595 games with the Hawks. Johnson has played in 476 games before Tuesday night's matchup with the Lakers.
In his career with the Hawks, Johnson is averaging 21.0 points per game which is good enough for sixth on the all-time list. Pete Maravich is No. 3 on the list with 24.3 per game average and is the only player in the top six that is not among the franchise's leaders in total points.
Should he remain with the Hawks through his current contract, Johnson would have a reasonable shot at climbing all the way to No. 4 on the all-time list for total points. Johnson will be making a sixth straight trip to the All-Star game this season and has saw himself bounce back from an injury plagued 2011 season.
In his career Johnson has amassed 14,000 points counting his stints in Phoenix and Boston. Currently he is 27th in the NBA among active career scorers.
Johnson's now infamous contract has been the source ridicule league wide ever since he signed it during the free agent frenzy of 2010. Sometimes in that context his accomplishments with the Hawks get lost or pushed to the back. He is destined to go down as one of the best players to ever wear a Hawks uniform.

by Bronn on Feb 14, 2012 4:12 PM EST up reply actions You snubbed Mookie for Ty Corbin? This is BAFFLING to me. Mookie can also be seated over SAR any day of the week.
by Duff_Man on Feb 14, 2012 7:59 PM EST up reply actions There is a reason Skip to my Lou's number has been raised to the rafters but he probably was underappreciated in his era, much like Dominique was.
