When a woman in the audience asked Joan where the fashion police were -- "we need them" -- Joan was unusually well, nice, in her initial response: "You don't need them. You look fine."

And then she killed the warm and fluffy mood by adding, "... for where you are." Cue awkward silence and hurt looks. Ever the pro, Joan managed to turn things around and have the crowd laughing about it in the end.

Later, a guy asked her if she'd had even more facelifts and Joan quipped, "I have had 106 facelifts. I have kept all my extra skin and I made a little person and it walks right beside me."

When a woman complimented her fashion designs, Joan joked about how great it was having the garments made by children. "You get your money's worth. There's no union and then when they grow to a certain age we sell them to Angelina Jolie."

"The Voice" (8 p.m. EST on NBC) After the complete waste of time and talent that comprised "American Idol's" Hollywood episodes last week, I find myself wishing that NBC's rival competition was the show that had two airings a week instead. It's part three of "The Voice's" blind auditions, in which mentors Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton must continue building their teams based purely on the vocal ability of the hopefuls. (In short, it's a breath of fresh air amongst the tedious talent contest scene.) I also insist that you watch "Smash" immediately after, because if it gets cancelled, my faith in humanity will be forever shattered.

Aside from boldly featuring women in their seventies and up in their advertisements, which is to be lauded, standout commercials from the past two Super Bowls share something else in common: neither has anything to do with fashion or beauty.

Joan Rivers: "The networks are still very much an old boys club. They think women at night just want to watch men. I'd love to have my own late-night talk show and I think I could take them all."

Normal desires are one thing, but American culture is ablaze with media and advertising that concern themselves solely with how we look.

08:00 AM on 02/15/2012 I've always thought Joan Rivers is a great comedian. It's especially nice for a select few like Joan as they get older their timing doesn't go.
