The New York Times reports that the Cain train was only able to muster 6,324 votes, giving the ex-candidate fifth place in the contest. Cain actually received more votes than Rick Perry, Jon Huntsman, and Michele Bachmann combined. However, this only added up to 1.1 percent of the vote.
Colbert is only in the exploratory phase of his candidacy, which he undertook after seeing he was ahead of Huntsman in a South Carolina poll. He transferred the responsibilities of his Super PAC to Jon Stewart, so he was free to dip his toes in the presidential pool. On his show, he said he would see a strong showing of support for Cain in the South Carolina primary as a sign of whether or not he should officially enter the contest.
Only a tool thinks that ANYONE in black face is funny. And you clearly don't watch Steven Colbert, because he's not only funny, but very, very smart.
only a person who is ignorant thinks black face is funny. I for one think it is was and for ever will be disgusting. As for not liking Colbert your brain must be too small to understand not only his humor but the message he is trying to deliver.
What is really amazing to me is that South Carolina is supposedly an Evangelical Christian state. A state where morals are an important part of your religion. Gingrich was first a Southern Baptist, then turned Lutheran, which is about as far apart from Southern Baptist as you can get, unless you become Roman Catholic, which he did. He has not applied for a Roman Catholic canonical annulment from his other wives from his parish. Coupled with this is his ex-wife's accusation that he wished to have her agree for him to be with another woman. His daughters said it was a lie. Of course they would say it is a lie, he is their father. He said others and his friends have said it is a lie. Of course they will, notice he gave no answer to his wife's allegations. He was on the defensive.
Sir, It was not our network that started this. No stop Sir. How dare you hide behind a veil of your own morality that seems weak. You bluster at questions aimed at you to determine your ability to run this country on Christian principles you were Southern Baptists as are most here then turned to the Lutheran religion which is about as opposite as Southern Baptist then Roman Catholic, You have had three marriages and still you refuse to confront the questions. Sir do you have no shame?
(I know I know what about Obama and his Muslim loving gang. Is it the Muslims you are so worried about or the Muslim Terrorists you are worried about? Was the Oklahoma bombing by radical Muslims or a darn good ole' American boy named Timothy McVeigh)
Now back to Gingrich. Watch him folks. I want to especially address those Republicans of Rockefeller, Independents and true Republicans. You claim the high road of Christianity. Prove it. If you cannot renounce your Christian Values.
What makes any of you think these ~6,000 would have voted for another listed candidate still active in the contest? There were votes cast for ALL of Bachmann, Cain, Huntsman & Perry, which means it's fair to speculate that they received votes from those who were either (A) moronically low information types, or (B) were casting a form of protest vote. BOTH are known features of mature democratic voting systems everywhere. But if the greater number who voted for Cain were doing that in response to Colbert's stunt of using Cain's name being on the ballot as a cut-out for Colbert comedy (suggesting there could be at least few thousand dadaists in South Carolina, something I find heartening), Colbert's "campaign" in fact has serious aspects to it (showing up the inherent perils of the Citizens United decision, a big aspect of the danger of money in politics & the additional hazards of anonymous money in the democratic process), which supports the argument that this last set of Cainiacs were not the least serious voters yesterday, but the MOST - stupid like a South Carolina grey fox. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D... http://www.dnr.sc.gov/marine/m...
Wow, I am really shocked. I've been to South Carolina and I figured there were closer to 600,000 rubes who would vote for someone because a pseudo-celebrity told them to...
In 2012: Greene justified his potential bid by saying "I?m the man. I?m the man. I?m the man. Greene?s the man. I?m the man. I?m the greatest person ever. I was born to be president. I?m the man, I?m the greatest individual ever.?
After the Greene/Obama primary debates, Alvin will reform everything, since he is the man. He would have defeated DeMint if people had just voted for him.
Hey government poster dominating this thread and linking to Wikipedia quit wasting our tax dollars conducting Psy-ops on the America public.
There seems to be a continuing failure, both in the msm generally & here at Mediaite, among reporters & readers, to understand the nature of the authoritarian mind. Last night's vote result in South Carolina is easy to reconcile in light of such an understanding.
Take Romney (please). He, & of course Santorum (Huntsman) fail to understand that religiotic authoritarians are simply not that impressed by pols presenting as Goody Two-shoes types; instead, they crave tent revival demagogues - like Huey Long. They believe everyone is a sinner, that those who present as being without sin are the worse sort, and that those who enter the tent & openingly confess sin, even as they CONTINUE to sin, are the best sort - the sort THEY can understand, relate to, and trust. Newt is FROM the South - he knows all about this; he knew that all he needed to do was give them an old-fashioned tent revivalist speech reeking of fire-&-brimstone, & of sin - something he & a huge percentage of South Carolinans are culturally comfortable with. The two pre-ballot debates gave him the platform, & Juan Williams & John King handed him the platter.
not really.sometimes it's just about having fun and i have the impression the 2 men genuinely like each other. For all we know Colbert killed 2 birds with one stone.Got his point across about Super Pacs and at least tried to get the man he wanted elected. MAYBE Colbert actually wanted Herman Cain to get votes. Just sayin.Outside of that i think it's time to lighten up a little bit. People can't have fun anymore. It's gotta be ugly and vile or it's not worth people's time.
the only candidate that never received any scrutiny and had the worst of his past buried is in the oval office. It's easy to win and get positive coverage when the media is putting out propaganda and ppl are too stupid to see it.When i was growing up we had real journalism and reporters like Walter Cronkite. You had no idea what party he belonged to,whether he was liberal or conservative. You simply could not tell.Back then it was truly fair and balanced. As a side note;i know many people who intended to vote for Herman Cain in S. Carolina before Colbert even got this idea. We intend to vote for him in Pa. I doubt there were that many "Colbert" voters but the ones that did amaze me. Colbert says vote for Cain and they do?
According to CNN and MSNBC, Herman Cain shall provide the "official t-bagger response to the Pres's. SOTU speech. So it is official and I hereby declare:
