Erica Braverman on December 23rd, 2011 at 10:59 am I adore her work. I think before my emulating Cindy Sherman phase, I was in a serious Francesca Woodman phase. Such a influence I wish was still around.

Casey Cichowicz on December 23rd, 2011 at 11:17 am I?m pretty impressed with the woman who can hang from a doorframe (4th from left, top). I feel like I should be able to do pullups in a doorway, but my hands give out before I can start. I?m also a lousy climber.

Deron Bauman on December 23rd, 2011 at 11:26 am One thing I?m reminded of looking at these images is how lousy digital is for movement. You can?t take these kinds of images with digital. Maybe there?s a kind of image you can?t take with film. In fact, I think that?s the case. Now I?m going to chew on my lip.

Erica Braverman on December 23rd, 2011 at 12:03 pm Deron, make sure you furrow your brow. I have the book these images are scanned from and when you first posted it, I thought for a second you borrowed my copy while I was asleep for 2.5 hours this morning.

Erica Braverman on December 23rd, 2011 at 12:17 pm The images of birch trees wrapped around her wrists like bandages are among my favorite. Should have tried thinking about that image when I was trying to sleep. Instead, I think I was ironing a new crease in my face last night.

Deron Bauman on December 23rd, 2011 at 12:17 pm Erica, we must have gotten a preview release of the documentary, as I stumbled on it late last night (right around our all caps Twitter fest, actually) which prompted the image search.

Erica Braverman on December 23rd, 2011 at 12:28 pm I didn?t even know it was on PBS until this morning. My dad happened to catch the NPR interview with I think her parents awhile back and brought it up at dinner. It always kills me when my dad tells me about who Terry Gross interviewed that day or whatever interview he catches. Then he asks me if I know who they are, I usually do. When he brought up the documentary, the 17 year old version of me rolled her eyes. Yes, dad. I know who they are. I am looking forward to watching it and might be able to convince him to watch it with me. I?m more interested in the family dynamic and mental illness aspect of the story than her art at this point. Glad you started me on a rabbit chase to find it this morning.

Erica Braverman on December 23rd, 2011 at 2:10 pm Shelia, we must have partied together in a former life. I had an astrologist once tell me I was a courtesan in one of my past lives. Perhaps we had mutual court friends then.
