Brees topped Marino's record of 5,084 yards with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Darren Sproles on Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons.

Brees entered the game with 4,780 yards, needing 305 to set the record. He has passed for 300 yards or more an NFL-record 12 times this season ? with one game still to play.

Brees threatened Marino's record once before in 2008, when he finished with 5,069 yards, making him and Marino the only quarterbacks to pass for 5,000 yards in a season.

12:25 AM on 12/28/2011 As far as I am concerned there needs to be an asterict behind his "record". Marino did it in less games and for my money Marino was and remains the best passing quarterback ever; and that comes from a devoted Packer fan. The same goes for the home run record and Babe didn't have the advantage of steroids. Drew and Rogers are cetainly at the top of quarterbacks but their records need astericts too unless they do it in the same number or fewer games.

09:54 PM on 12/27/2011 Congrats Drew Brees, a nice guy that does'nt need to toot his own horn, how refreshing, I wish I could have been there last night, what a good excuse for a party!

04:57 PM on 12/27/2011 Congrats on the record. He is on pace ot break an even greater record during the 5th game next year. So far he has trown a TD in 42 straight games. The record is 47 held by Johnny Unitus.

04:07 PM on 12/27/2011 Would this be a good time to market a Dree Brees autographed Saints cap from fall 2009 just before the Superbowl?

04:03 PM on 12/27/2011 I've had the good fortune to watch the Saints for the last four weeks in a row (we don't get all the games up here unless you buy a package) and I am so impressed with offensive tools New Orleans has.

If things follow true to form, the two best games of the year will be the Saints against the 49ers and the winner of that against Green Bay. Can't wait!

03:57 PM on 12/27/2011 Why, yes, it was. I was actually commenting how Tebow has gotten all this attention with mediocre play and his Jeebus act while Brees has been setting a record and getting almost no national coverage along the way.

04:55 PM on 12/27/2011 Tebow needs to get his head out of the clouds! Just because he can run with the football does not excuse a 48% completion percentage!

04:17 PM on 12/27/2011 Brees has a week to pad it yet. I wonder if he'll play the whole game? There's still a chance to finish with the bye.

09:34 PM on 12/27/2011 if rodgers or brady beats it too it will mean nothing - brees did it 1st and whoever beats it next will only be the beacon that shines the light on the fact that in todays NFL it is much easier to post offensive numbers because of all the sissy rule changes the NFL has introduced since then...........

03:24 PM on 12/27/2011 I get a little tired of hearing all the NFL announcers gushing about Brees, but the guy is very good. He is in the perfect system with the perfect coach for his talents.
