A Charlie Sheen-less Two and a Half Men was no problem for the show?s ratings. Quite the opposite actually -- nearly 28 million viewers tuned to the premiere on Monday, garnering the highest ratings in the series' history. Clearly, the CBS show ? now starring Ashton Kutcher -- won the ratings battle that night.

But Charlie Sheen and his Comedy Central Roast were ?winning? when it came to the social media war for the night.

The Roast of Charlie Sheen, which aired the same night as the Two and a Half Men premiere, garnered about 400,000 tweets through the night, while Kutcher?s show earned only around 150,000, according to social media monitoring group Visible Technologies.

Social TV analytics platform Bluefin Labs also released numbers for the discussion on multiple social networking sited including Twitter, Facebook, and thousands of fan forum micro-blogs.

The Roast of Charlie Sheen won the night, accumulating 148,000 total comments, from 98,000 unique authors, according to Bluefin Labs. In comparison, the new season of Two and a Half Men scored 92,000 total comments from 75,000 unique authors. Two and a Half Men didn?t even come in second place overall for the night when it came to social media: Dancing with the Stars, which also premiered that night, beat Men for the night.

Two and a Half Men star Ashton Kutcher even added his own Tweet on Monday night, writing ?Man I wish I had the east coast feed so I could watch it with you all... #2.5.? Not to be outdone, Sheen sent plenty of Tweets from his viewing party on Monday night, thanking his friends, fans and roasters.

?Thank you @comedycentral..! I'm moved... speechless and grateful! (and glad it's over...) Well done my friends. Well done!? he wrote on Monday night.

As for ratings, Sheen?s Roast was the most-watched show in franchise history, drawing 6.4 million total viewers and delivering a 4.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic.

But even that accomplishment paled in comparison to Two and a Half Men?s nearly 90 percent jump from last season's premiere episode.

6.4 million people tuned in to see Charlie on The Roast of Charlie Sheen. 28 Million people tuned in to see Two and a Half Men (NOT to see Ashton Kutcher)....to see TAHM "without" Charlie..!

Here's an idea - Play the Sheen roast again next week and the next episode of 2.5 men adn see who gets better ratings. I know I'll watch the roast again. Kutcher can't act. I'd take torture over watching that hack any day.

Yep That's absolutely right, there's no point comparing the overall viewership. Firstly coz the fate of two and half men has been on the lime light for over 6 months now, so this episode of two and half men is one of the most advertised premieres in the history of premieres ! Secondly atleast 75% of the 28 million viewers of the premiere episode are Charlie's fans, the res of them just wanted to see what's goin on...

Surely Charlie could make a comeback on Two & a Half Men... It was crazy Rose who witnessed him die afterall...maybe she lied & he is locked in her basement or something lol!

But why compare ? Two and a Half Men is on the most watched mainstream network, the roast was on a cable channel..don't compare what can't be compare..the roast on CBS who have been the most watched program moreover all this Two and Half Men season premiere was about Sheen character Charlie Harper (and actually very about Sheen himself in Chuck Lorre mind..lol but so true..ha)

Even though he wouldn't make his marks and lines as he should do ( season 8 ), they did the wrong thing to fire Charlie Sheen from the show !!! From a fan, the first episode on season 8 really delivered what is expected from the show !! The real Charlie Sheen / Harper era !!!!

You're right man, but as of now I feel NBC should pick up Charlie's new sitcom and air it opp 2.5 Men ! Lets see how the viewership comes then ! That way Chuck can't use Men's existing popularity (Obviously due to Charlie)

i hate how they can put tv viewing's down to the tenth when they have no idea how many people watched these shows. there's no stats from dish or cable providers. sample audience or survey? if only there was just some sort of online viewing where you actually knew the number of people that watched the show and they could rate it themselves.... o well.

Well It could happen coz the only witness to Charlie's death is Rose ! And Charlie's body was never shown ! LoL For all we know Charlie is still bang-packing around Europe !!

The thing is, that without Charlie, that the show is actually based on, as Chuck and Lee confirmed in a 2007 interwiew with the original cast, that all of you can find on youtube, they have no show !!

Season premiere on CTV without Charlie Sheen is the second most-watched comedy broadcast in Canada after a May 2004 airing of a Friends episode.
