Comments 20 Add comment Whitney Houston talked about her role in the forthcoming movie Sparkle and the death of Aaliyah in the course of an interview with Essence magazine, just weeks before Houston herself passed away. Houston and her Sparkle co-producer Debra Martin Chase originally intended to make Sparkle 11 years with Aaliyah but then the R&B singer was killed in an August 2001 plane crash. ?God needed her more,? Houston told Essence. ?We were so, so saddened by it. And then 10 years later, to the date, Debra calls me and said, ?Whitney, you won?t believe this but they want Sparkle.?? Houston, who died Saturday afternoon at the age of 48, appears in the film alongside Jordin Sparks and Mike Epps.

I can't stop thinking about Babyface because he and Ricky Minor went on an incredible journey with this talent!!! Thank you VH1 for playing her LIVE concerts because this is when she showed the youngsters what SANGIN/performing is!!! RIP angel and I pray Terry McMillan brings in a Viola Davis to take your place in Exhale2(Getting to Happy) because your memory must be honored. I hope a movie is in the works titled "Whitney" because she had a Tina Turner legacy and Angela Basset did Tina justice in "What's Love...." Again RIP Nippy!!!!

This is a time to have compassion for someone who clearly had tremendous struggles with substance abuse. If you have ever had someone in your life who dealt with those issues then you would not be so callous and unfeeling. Having compassion for others also makes it easier for them to be nonjudgmental and compassionate towards you. Everyone has problems in life and everyone struggles in a different way, why is there a need to judge?

That was heartless. Whether it was another homeless that overdosed on the street or Whitney Houston who died, it is still sad. People in this world suffer so much. Have we lost our compassion? We will all die one day? Death should not be mocked.

I agree, sometimes the more you hurt and poke fun at someone because of their troubles, the more you become as responsible for someone's death just as much as the personal problems. You are better off not saying nothing at all, when someone is abused. Help them up, give them a guiding hand, and not ever hurt them.

Addiction is a merciless, non-denominational, unprejudiced disease. Nobody is immune to it. No matter where you come from, the amount of money you have, your social status, whatever. Unfortunately, many do not recover from it. For those of us who are recovering, let Whitney remind us of that. For those of you unfamiliar with the disease (yes, disease) of addiction, consider this a valuable lesson.

She was perfect to play the singer. It is unfortunate that she never got the chance to do the film. I'm thankful that Whitney Houston got a chance to remake one of her favorite movies "Sparkle." Many of us in the black community also love this 1976 classic film.

Whitney was not only an amazing talent, she was a beautiful woman who had a stunning smile like no other. I am truly saddened by her passing and it is such a waste. Drugs are a choice is someone's life and tragically this can be the results. Maybe others fighting addiction can learn from this and the deaths of so many others.
