Shanti Bhushan, former law minister and the co-chair of Joint Drafting Committee on Lokpal Bill, responded to these doubts early this morning.
Overwhelmed by people?s support who refuse to tolerate corruption lying down, Team Anna vowed that we shall not leave Ramlila ground until Jan Lokpal Bill is passed in this session.
Shanti Bhushan explained, in rather fine details, that the current government?s Lokpal Bill can be withdrawn and the Jan Lokpal Bill can be introduced on Tuesday in the Lower House of Parliament (as Monday is a holiday). On Wednesday and Thursday, Jan Lokpal Bill and each of its provisions can be discussed at length by the Parliamentarians of the Lower house. And then the Bill may be sent to Rajya Sabha. And by the 29th ? 30th August the discussions can be concluded and the Bill may be passed. He shared the experience that during Emergency, the 39th Amendment was passed not just in both the houses but also in legislative assemblies of the states very quickly as then there was not just political will, but also political urgency to do so. It may be underlined that adequate time is being granted for discussion. Otherwise Indian parliaments have displayed dismal apathy to many Bills which were passed within minutes of tabling, without any debate or discussion.

Bhartiya Kisaan Union extended its support to the Jan Lokpal Bill and said that corruption at the level of Panchayats, in irrigation department, in forest department should be essentially checked. Anna Hazare gave a call today to demonstrate / dharna at MP?s houses. This is a very good idea. But it has not been circulated by the Media. Team Anna should concentrate on this idea, and talk about it more and more, again and again.

If only there is a political will, anything can be done with amazing speed. Our MPs, and for that matter our MLAs, hardly take any time in passing the bill increasing their remunerations/allowances/perks/facilities/privileges. Then 10 days are too many days for tabling and passing the Janlokpal bill, if our Parliament has got the due regards for the popular will sweeping the nation, that it claims to represent.
Shanti Bhushanji has very aptly cited 39th constitution amendment which quickly passed to cater to political urgency, I believe it was pertaining then PM Mrs Indira Gandhi He has been very modest in not citing the name. He has also cited some bills passed withing minutes of tabling without any debate.
I understand this needs to emphasized vehemently, over media, that eradication or corruption may not be political urgency of the incumbent government but it a matter of social, economical, judicial and political urgency of the Nation. Arvind Kejriwal Ji and Prashant Bhushan Ji are very effectively making their point. But, citing the instances quoted by Shanti Bhushan Ji and many more that could be digged out may be used to anal the Govt?s argument/delay-tactics to digress the whole issue.
Team Anna movement is great and worthy of time. It is long overdue. Far better approach than turning into a thief, murderer, Naxalite or Maoists or Militant or a Terrorist.
One more important thing as per Govt. Lokpal bill do any multi crores fraud and if proved than 6 months jail only, where (in jail) on money power you can get 5 star facilities also.
In short Govt. Lokpal is giving legal permission to do fraud/corruption without fear and whoever will do biggest scam that will be same 6 months jail.
Anna has provided us a platform where we all can raise our voice against this insensetive and corrupt govt. Which is working only for benefit of corporate world.This is life time opportunity. I have been watching your TV debates on this issue of ?fast onto death?, ?blackmail?, mandate to represent people and disrespect for Constituency, Parliament.
Let?s say I am a monthly salary earner and deposit the same in a savings bank account. The bank?s money safe, the burglar / security system are in the control of the Chairman of the Bank, which has a board, shareholders, directors etc to govern the interests of the bank and the depositors.
If I believe that there have been several instances of the management having stolen the money from the safe am I wrong if I demand that the security system and investigating team be independent, effective and accountable?
If the bank does not listen then I have the option to put my money in another bank. But as an Indian I have no option but to pay my taxes to the Govt of India and therefore no option but to protest and change the vigilance and investigating system, whether I like it or not, and whether you think I am a nuisanse or not, until it changes or until I die!
The management of the bank or of the country have a choice to listen to me and to millions others affected. I unfortunately have none!

We have waited for 43years, we can wait for few more months to get a stronger n proper bill. Instead of fixing the deadline as Aug 30th, as govt when they can enact the bill. To me, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal appears to be Swami Vivekananda. This is not merely a compliment; it refers more on his sincerity, boldness, transparency, intelligent, care for society and ofcourse his persona. I felt this after watching several of his interviews, his speeches. I wish I can meet him in person sometime and take a pride in the same.
Common men scared to approached any govt. offices, what ever reason it is. I feel it is noble and huge step taken by Annaji which may connect us with the main stream of democracy and feel the taste of independence, so far we are concealed as a tax payer. It is humble request to Mr. Prime Minister that he should brief his team that politics is a noble deeds done for others.
We cant give more time to Gov.t for think about JanLokpal bill. They are not interested in this bill they r finding the way how can be misguide the people of India.

I completely support Anna and his team in their sincere efforts to eradicate corruption from India. We need a strongest bill possible eg. JanLokPal to root out corruption.

I read or heard in a news channel that civil society has apporached the opposition parties and they are very much ambivalent attitued towards it. In plain language they are waiting that how the whole situation devlope than they will act according to their political benifit.
Please don?t co-operate with a Standing Committee headed by Abhishek Singhvi in which members are Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Lalu Prasad, Amar Singh, Ram Vilas Paswan, Manish Tewari etc..
Committee through advertisements in the has invited suggfestions from any quarter in writing and extended initation to depose before it with any material with a gurantee that it would be treated as ?confidential?.
All would be happy for first round winning by Anna Hazare. It could happen only because of Govt.?s foolish actions; preventative arrest in haste and damaged government?s image by keeping Anna Hazare in jail against the law!! Movement have initial unexpected mass support; it is not sufficient ? should maintain till the goal achieve ? none knows how much time it would take.

1. Government shall withdraw the ?PROMOTION CORRUPTION BILL? immediately without standing on false prestige of few idiots. JAN LOKPAL BILL shall bring to the Parliament.
2. If government wishes national Conesus, both the Draft Bills are put in referendum similar to General Election. Election commission should declare the date of referendum at the earliest.
3. PM?s statement in Parliament ?Sole prerogative of Parliament to make a law ?is literal and superficial only. In Indian constitutional scheme, constitution is the Supreme and not he Parliament as claimed by PM. Major laws are shaped in Parliamentary democracies are the end product of movements and struggles of People. MPs irrespective of political parties are fooling the people to protect corrupt which is rare of rarest crime!
4. People?s support is not because of any out side force or any organizations viz. RSS, Sangh Parivar, Bharat Swabhiman and the like. Government trying its best to divide people to kill the movement of victims of corruption and not an individual named ANNA HAZARE. The real force behind the movement is ?Corruption?. Ignoring true facts and continuing to protect corruption, Government shall be sole responsible of the consequences!!
5. PM?s repeated argument that he / government has no ?Magic Wand? to control corruption, shows Government is in-sincere, no will to bring any strong law to curb corruption and people come to street to get a strong law; is it a crime against democracy?
6. Attack on Anna Hazare team that they are blackmailing Government clearly indicates Government?s dirty game of black mailing those who raise voice against corruption.
7. Anna Hazare Team has legal say in the matter of LOK PAL BILL, as Government of India has constituted the Committee for drafting the LOK PAL BILL consisting of members of Civil Society members. They are not mere individual without any authority. Had the Government did not constituted such a committee; they may not have any say. Now Civil Society members of drafting committee got equal right as of the representatives Government side.
PS. I don?t know am I right or not, just put my thoughts in a hurry, please modify ideas suitably if considered worth, otherwise ignore.
We need to force the politicians into enacting a strong Lokpal bill, we need to get back at them at their own game. Let us ensure that every citizen at each of these rallies is registered voter. And let them not vote for their sitting MP and MLA if they don?t support a Lokpal bill that envisages creating an institute that is independent and empowered to prosecute those guilty of corruption as envisaged by the people of this nation.
Annaji?s movement is the great revolution in India. It should not be compromised for prime minister and justices from Lokpal bill as demanded by government.Othe matters like right to recall etc should be included.

First Preference should be now given to pass on Jan Lokpal Bill. All Rajya Sabha & Loksabha session should be called together at the earliest and on top prority basis Jan Lokpal Bill should be passed. Government should take a honest move on Jan Lokpal Bill at the earliest. Government must be always aware that they are not the kings & that they have been elected by us to represent our Country. They are not bosses to convince false reasons to people.

I think the only way to solve the root cause of corruption prevalent in our society and among the politicians, is by changing the ELECTION MECHANISM of our country.
The very SIMPLE MAJORITY SYSTEM of election of MPs and MLAs is to be indirectly blamed for the growing corruption in India. The manner in which we elect our representatives is itself at fault. For example, if there are 100 voters in a constituency who vote to elect their representative from among the 3 candidates and the results are as follows :- Candidate 1 gets 45 votes, Candidate 2 gets 30 votes and Candidate 3 gets 25 votes. So, the candidate 1 is elected, although 55 people did not want this candidate to be elected.
In this way, even if the people do not want a person as their representative, then also with such election mechanism, the corrupt, criminal, unwanted and gangmen enter our legislature. What is even more saddening is that large number of candidates are nominated for election from a constituency, so that the votes are divided and with the simple majority system, enable the blacklisted candidate to be elected.
Regarding the banning of tainted candidates from fighting elections, these candidates are allowed to stand in elections ?till their crime is proved in the court of law?. But it?s a fact that the case goes on for years and these corrupt people continue to be a part of Parliament / State legislature. This is the only cause of ANNA HAZARE?s failure in forcing the govt. to table the ?effective? LOK PAL BILL in the Parliament. Will the corrupt sitting MPs allow such step to be taken which will be harmful for their own livelihood as politicians ???
So, dear Anna, please include the change in the basic mechanism of election process of the country from Simple Majority system to Proportional Representation (as in the case of President?s election) in your movement .
Government has complicated a very simple and relevant demand of formulating an effective mechanism to deal with corrupt public servants( replace it with serpents if you find it synonymous) out of fear of imminent prosecution of most of its ministers. The government, instead should have shown courage in the larger interest of the people. I can only pray that God Almighty bestow some wisdom to the P.M.
