2012 Nfl Mock Draft
The 2012 NFL Combine is just one week away and well after a month since the 2011 regular season ended we're starting to get a good feel for the draft stock of most prospects.
So now feels like a good time to debut my second mock draft of the year, this time featuring trades. The average first round of the NFL Draft has about four to eight trades so it seems unrealistic to ignore them, although it's borderline impossible to actually accurately predict them. Click beyond the jump to see the mock and who I pick for the Jaguars.

I would look at Curry, Gilmore, or Sanu. It?s starting to look like(to me at least) we may only come out of FA with one WR, which means we may have to use two of our higher picks on a WR.
Depends... on who they get in FA at the WR position. If they get one of the top tier guys, then we should only need a guy who can grow into a legit #2. Unless the plan is to really get rid of Thomas, then we?ll need another slot receiver and that shouldn?t require another high draft pick to fill. Now if we don?t get one of the top tier guys in FA and it?ll be another committee type effort, then two high round selections don?t sound like such a bad idea.
by Jermaside4 on Feb 14, 2012 9:35 PM EST up reply actions That would be... an excellent deal to make. It really doesn?t seem to be a player that is ?lock? to be the 7th pick (barring someone falling), so to pick up an additional 2nd rounder would be nice. It also makes a lot of sense with Buffalo switching to a 4-3 (I bet they?re going to miss Poz now). That could be used to nab two second round talents or potentially trade back up late into the first. I much prefer the idea of having both, overall pick #39 and #42 than having one player between pick 25-32 though.
by Jags85 on Feb 14, 2012 10:27 PM EST via mobile up reply actions The last time we traded out of a spot that team got on hell of a player (Washington Redskins picking up Ryan Kerrigan)

by T.Holmes on Feb 14, 2012 5:44 PM EST reply actions Give me Jon Martin at 10 please Janoris Jenkins or Dre Kirkpatrick could be in play there.
"The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price."
If we only get one wide reciever in FA then we will probably draft a WR in the first round but in my opinion Kendall is the fourth best wide reciever. Id rather have Alshon Jeffrey if he runs a 4.5.

You guys need to be reeeeeeeeeeeeeal careful with pre-draft 40 time rumors. I?d bet money Jeffrey?s agent put that out there so he looks great at the combine by blowing away that number.
by Jaggaholic82 on Feb 14, 2012 8:13 PM EST up reply actions I am not sure it is going to matter a 4.75 is a 4.75 whether he ran 4.88 previously or a 4.75 previously.

by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Feb 14, 2012 9:02 PM EST up reply actions Controversy? Yea I?d say so, the article says he was actually in an entirely different state..
by Jaggaholic82 on Feb 14, 2012 8:11 PM EST up reply actions I think people get too wrapped up in supposed "value" and where a guy gets picked. Personally, I don?t give a rats fart where we pick a guy, as long as he turns out to be a good player. 7, 10, 32?who cares??? If the guy produces, he was a good pick.
by Jaggaholic82 on Feb 14, 2012 6:08 PM EST up reply actions what do you think value is all about it is about ranking how productive you think players will be. I think that Vinny Curry is going to be a productive player in the NFL. No way do I draft him at 7 because the level of production I envision him having is not enough to warrant that high of a selection.
"The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price."
for whatever it's worth I love vinny curry and think he will be the best pash rushing de in this draft. This guy was at a bigger school would be a lock top ten pick. I wouldn?t mind if we got him in the first round at all cause I seriously doubt he lasts into the second.
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Feb 14, 2012 6:32 PM EST up reply actions so you just hate the concept of valuing players more than others? I am not quite sure how you expect draft picks to be made. I mean I feel like along the same logic, you are opposed to having goods and services having different prices based upon people?s preferences and desires. You need to have some sort of value system or else nothing could exist.
"The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price."
To return and expand on my economics example, say you have $80 to spend and can either get an MJD Jersey or a Derek Jeter(I thought I remembered you are a Yankee fan and see by your profile I am correct) jersey. Which one do you get? You must place greater value on one over the other one.
"The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price."
I guess, more specifically, my problem is with people saying you can?t take a WR or RB or whatever in Top 10, or you shouldn?t trade this pick for that pick?who cares? As long as you pick a player who is going to be a contributor to the team, I don?t give a hoot if he goes 2nd, 3rd, or 10th.
by JPQ! on Feb 14, 2012 8:12 PM EST up reply actions I would love this but I doubt the bills would trade 2 second rounders to move up 3 spots.
I think you're right and we?ll see more trading at the top then in the past. Now that top-10 salary?s aren?t ridiculous like they were before.
by Ewdtrey on Feb 14, 2012 6:33 PM EST up reply actions I think that trade is highly unrealistic, no way Tannehill is a top 10 pick, he?s a 2nd rounder, who may be able to get him self into the late first.
by rhettchrystal on Feb 14, 2012 6:28 PM EST up reply actions and also... ?I think Buffalo trading up for Coples wouldn?t be a smart move. Because they are giving up their second round pick. Their defense needs a lot of work. And Buffallorumbliongs has their top 3 needs at?DE(pass rusher)
Coples does have some pass rushing moves, but is not an elite pass rusher, and not a great pass rusher. But they can grab Blackmon, and replace Johnson or start him across from Johnson. If I was the front office, I?d resign Johnson and sign Mincey. Then draft Blackmon, and Travis Lewis in the 2nd. Both can start from day 1.
by Jags85 on Feb 15, 2012 9:20 AM EST via mobile up reply actions run on QBs could happen and Tannehill can find his way into the first. I agree top 10 is high, but I would not be shocked to see him or Foles find their way into the bottom of the first.

by rhettchrystal on Feb 14, 2012 6:43 PM EST up reply actions IDK I know he is not in charge of much, but Trent DIlfer absolutely loves Foles after watching a ton of game tape Could very well be teams will view Foles in a similar light and take him in the late first or second.

by Jagsrok9008 on Feb 14, 2012 7:34 PM EST up reply actions He didn't really drop himself into the 4th. It was more like confirming what most who?ve watched him play beforehand already thought of him.
by Aristotle45 on Feb 14, 2012 6:14 PM EST reply actions There are three players... that intrigue me the most since I?ve been reading around about some of these prospects. They are Illinois DE Whitney Mercilus, South Carolina OLB/DE Melvin Ingram and North Carolina WR Dwight Jones. Not sure why but they stood out to me.
by kjones407 on Feb 14, 2012 6:33 PM EST reply actions Without knowing the results from free agency... I don?t what to think about a WR in the first round. I?d forget the trade and just take Coples.
by muddyballs on Feb 14, 2012 7:33 PM EST reply actions i like the draft alot looks very plausible, but i could see panthers wanting miami?s pick and vise versa.
by he aint drew on Feb 14, 2012 8:22 PM EST reply actions While I love trading down and getting Wright... I just hate the idea of going wr in the first round when the draft is so deep this year for WRs. Conflicted.
by CheapSeat on Feb 15, 2012 9:55 AM EST up reply actions I like the Wright pick though I'm still a fan of Coples Wright is a speedster who can run great routes and catch the ball. The only knock on him is his size. If we add an elite receiver in FA then I would like this a lot more.
by jaguars32 on Feb 14, 2012 8:52 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions Wright very well could end up higher on Gene's board "The dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. by Jagsrok9008 on Feb 14, 2012 9:01 PM EST up reply actions I love this!! If Coples is a hot commodity and we resign Mincey and bring in another starting FA DE, lets use this pick to trade back, grab a 2nd rounder.
2nd round we can grab both a DE (curry), CB(a bunch of quality corners second round), OL or another WR(jones, mcnutt, Jeffery may fall, ect.).
by JagSoldier on Feb 15, 2012 1:09 AM EST reply actions Seems like a waste of time Until we see who the Jags and other teams pick up in free agency, there really isn?t any way to speculate on how the draft will turn out. It does provide some fun during the off season! What is really exciting for me is what our new owner is doing to build a winner in Jacksonville.
